2-Month-Old Baby’s Development

Around 2 months of age, babies continue to try to lift their heads. Although neck control isn't perfect, it's a time when neck strength is needed to some extent. Vision also develops more than in the 0–1-month period, as they start focusing on moving objects. However, it is still difficult for them to clearly distinguish the contours.

Crying is more specific, and the cry made when hungry and when drowsy are different. Baby care becomes easier if you can distinguish these. Babies start babbling and show a smile. It's a physiological laugh where the facial muscles move by themselves, rather than expressing emotions toward mom and dad. Nevertheless, please smile and talk warmly with them. There is no better way to aid your child's emotional development!

Caring for a 2-month-old Baby

1. Around the age of 2 months, the baby has passed the newborn period, but they are still very weak. Be sure to support your baby's neck and head when holding the baby. In proper baby care for 2-month-old babies, is forbidden to play games such as shaking the body or throwing a child high.

2. Your baby's eyes may look like they have strabismus, but it's okay if there are no abnormal findings in infant check-ups, etc.

3. If your baby has a high fever before 3 months of age, this is a bad sign. You may have to go to the emergency room. A high fever before 3 months of age should always be dealt with sensitively.

4. Always dress your baby in cool, loose-fitting clothes. To prevent diaper rash and sweat bands, it is also a good idea to remove the diaper often. Especially in summer, sweat bands easily occur, so create a comfortable environment, and thoroughly wipe between your child’s folds of skin when bathing them.

5. Now is the time to gradually create a feeding rhythm for continuing, effective baby care. Of course, you may be breastfeeding as soon as you have free time, but please think about the direction of how you want to manage your breastfeeding rhythm in the future. Encourage active play during the day and static play at night to help your baby gradually differentiate between day and night. When you grasp these basics, you can clearly proceed with sleep education.

6. What are the vaccinations for 2-month-old babies? Babies aged 2 months need to be vaccinated, such as with the 1st dose of DPT. Don't forget to visit the Department of Pediatrics to get your baby vaccinated.
